White Rock Beach

We have had beautiful weather while Dave's Mom has been here. So last Sunday we decided we just had to drive to White Rock to enjoy the sun and the ocean!

Heather decided the two of us needed a self portrait! She is the expert!

We enjoyed a delicious lunch of Fish and Chips at Moby Dicks on the Beach! It was so yummy!

We brought along chairs and a blanket so we could just sit and enjoy people watching along the beach.....I decided that I have to learn how to fly a kite. There were so many people flying kites and i just looked like so much fun!

The tide was out so there were people way out there enjoying the water and the sand.

Next came a walk along the boardwalk so we could reward ourselves with gelato! Hmmm, mmmm, Good!

All in all it was a wonderful trip.....some more great memories to savour in the middle of the rainy season!

More Flowers

I just had to post a few more pictures of the flowers from Butchart Gardens....here are a few of my favorites!

Butchart Gardens

I can't believe it's been almost two weeks since we were on the Island and spent time at Butchart Gardens with Dave's Mom....she leaves tomorrow so I thought I really needed to at least post a few pictures of our time there.......

The begonias were amazing....they were everywhere and the colors stunning!

This had been a request of her's, that we would take her there this trip....we were so thankful that the weather cooperated.

With fall's arrival, the dahlias are in full bloom as well! It was amazing how many different varieties and colors there were.

Chemainus World Famous Murals

I had promised to post more pictures from our trip to Vancouver Island this week but it's been a bit crazy! I babysat Aidan three days this week which was lots of fun, but filled up my days between that and work. Here are a few pictures from our stop in Chemainus last Sunday. It's between Nanaimo and Victoria for those of you that know Vancouver Island.

The town has over 40 murals painted on it's buildings, telling the history of the region.

I liked this shot of Dave's Mom and the moose!

This water wheel was actually used to generate power in the town.

Can you see the train on this one?

There were lots more but thought I would just give you a peek!

Friends are friends forever.....

Friends are friends forever, if the Lord is Lord of them.....that old song was singing in my head this weekend as we visited with our old friends, Gerd and Ilona. 33 years ago this weekend my parents moved me and my belongings up to Edmonton to live at their place while I finished my BSc at the University of Alberta.......being together with them and laughing at the old pictures that I had brought along made it seem like time had almost stood still......

Gerd explains their lot to Dave while Ilona and I were already up in the loft...

Getting the view from the deck ....

I guess time really hasn't stood still...we are both Grandmas after all..

It was soooo much fun to spend time with you both Gerd and Ilona! See you again real soon......

A Trip on the Ferry

Early in our years here in BC we used to spend time every summer on Vancouver Island, camping with good friends and salmon fishing. But in the last decade, that has only been a memory......this weekend we decided to take Dave's Mom to the Island to visit good friends who now live there as well as see of the Tourist haunts. I decided that out of the 175 pictures I took, I would just have to give you a glimpse several days in a row! Here is Dave enjoying having his camera out again....

He was so excited to be on a Ferry again, heading to the Island! and we were just barely moving away from land...
This ferry passed us so I decided to take a picture as the next best thing to having a picture of the ferry we were actually on.
Although the weather forcast had not been very hopeful earlier in the week, we were excited to see blue sky still when we got into the Nanaimo harbor.

September Roses

Anyone that has ever been to our house in the summer knows that Dave has a way with roses. We have several bushes in our front yard and he tenderly cares for them from early spring to late fall. This morning I just had to take a couple of pictures of this year's favorites.....here is my orange one that he nursed back from certain death last year.

And here is our newest member.....this plant replaced a very old and sick Mugo Pine and boy, am I glad it did! It's beautiful, Rose of the year for 2007 and it lives up to it's name, Sheer Magic!
