Sleep, sweet sleep.....

Kai is a good baby but does have times when he cries with gas(of course if he would burp that wouldn't happen as much but he would far rather just fall asleep and skip that part of feeding). Having said that, I thought I had to share a few pictures of him sleeping because he just looks so sweet......

Matt is an awesome Daddy and is willing to take his turn burping, changing diapers, and walking and rocking when gas attacks.

We all laugh when he is finished feeding and he is just gone to the world.....

Sleep, sweet sleep...in his basket even!

Smile-worthy pics

There are so many times every day that I pick up the camera to capture another pose, another look, another memory that I want to save because it makes me smile. I thought I would share a few of those with you today. I love it when Kai hears his Mommy's voice and just stares in her direction.....it's so neat that he actually knows her voice and Matt's too. And the dog's bark for that matter...he doesn't even blink when Tikka barks! He's obviously heard that for the last 9 months already!

Heather captured these next two shots of Dave and I with our newest family member.....and yes, we are both smitten! Can you tell?

This last shot was one of several that we took yesterday afternoon after his bath...as you can tell he is a wee bit jaundiced, but just too cute for words! And yes, those eyes really are dark brown!

Doing what he does best.....

As promised, here are some more pictures of Kai, doing what he does best.....sleeping..

Chillin' out with whoever wants to hold him and the cat because after all, she thinks she has to get loving too...

Enjoying the view from the shoulder.....any shoulder!

Screaming in disgust when having his diaper changed or getting a bath! I mean really.....where is a boy's dignity?

And showing off his adorable curls........aren't they precious?

A Grandparent's Best Day Ever!

It's late and in my 'other' life I would be in bed by now. But instead I am taking my turn with Kai while Mommy and Daddy try to catch up on their beauty sleep. At the moment he is sound asleep and I am watching his cute little faces as he begins to think about eating again! To be sure, these are a grandparent's best days ever....holding a newborn grandchild and marveling at an amazing Creator who gives us these precious bundles to love.

Dave drove up on Friday and was able to meet Kai and spend the weekend with all of us up here before driving home today. Heather and Matt's cat has decided that whoever has the baby should also love on her!! Jealous much?

Hopefully I will have more time tomorrow to post some of my newest 'Kai' pictures but for now here we are.....just loving getting to know one another!

Kai Benjamin

Well he is here!!! Kai Benjamin arrived last night, Thursday, September 24th at 10:30 at night after his mommy and daddy laboured all day long! He weighed in at 8 pounds 6 ounces, was 21 inches long(53 cm) and has his daddy's black, curly hair! And he has lots of it! We are so thankful for his safe arrival and are enjoying getting to know this special little boy.......here are some glimpses of his first couple of hours last night in the hospital.(Blogger is being temperamental and won't let me add text between the pictures so just enjoy!)

Mommy and Daddy and baby makes three.....the happy family!

Still Great with Child

Well last Thursday morning I flew up north on a little airplane! I love this view out the window as we flew up through the Fraser Canyon. It was a beautiful day.

Unfortunately baby isn't cooperating and Heather is still great with child! Her due date was yesterday so any day now would be just fine with us! Here are a couple of pictures that I snapped the last couple of days.

And so we wait......we are ready for you Baby!

You just never know.....

You just never know what you are going to see when you are out running errands! This past week I saw this dog sitting on the back of a motorcycle.....and yes, he had obviously been doing this for a very long time! He didn't even flinch when I took his picture...but I just couldn't resist! I still smile everytime I look at this picture.....You just never know!

All in a good day's work....

Fall is in the air...even when the sun shines, in the mornings there is dew everywhere and you can almost smell the crisp air. Most years we have grand plans of what we should do outside before winter comes, but either we are busy on the weekends when the weather cooperates or it rains when we could actually be working outside.

This last Saturday however everything lined up and we were able to rent a pick up and tackle our flowerbeds. The grass took a huge beating with our hot, dry summer(watering restrictions meant you weren't allowed to water lawns, wash cars or a host of other activities that included water) but everything else enjoyed the summer sunshine.

Three pick-up loads of bark mulch later, and hours, and hours of pulling weeds, trimming bushes, shovelling and levelling out bark mulch later, we were thrilled with how the front beds looked!! Our little gardener is still there beside the roses for a few more weeks since they will bloom for while yet too, but other than that, we are ready for winter.

Dave also picked up a load of lava rock so we could replenish the supply on our path along the side of the house and into the back yard!(it had been 11 years afterall since we first built it!) Re-placing all the paving stones took some work but now it all looks very inviting....why don't you stop by some day and come take a look?
We were exhausted but felt good about all that we had accomplished in a good day's work!

Splashes of Joy

I am truly spoiled and I freely admit it! My husband regularly brings me flowers and it's not unusual for me to have a bouquet of fresh flowers on my kitchen counter. But in the summer I tell him not to buy them because we have so many wonderful flowers growing in our flowerbeds...... last week I brought in a bunch of 'Dave's beauties', roses that were just to beautiful to leave outside in the rain.

Today was a hot day, more like July than September......these mums were crowding out the yellow roses so they just had to be cut! I thought they would be perfect in this amazing vase that a friend gave me earlier this summer as a thank you for taking care of her cat! And perfect they are......truly a splash of joy from the outside in!

Enjoying the last rays of sunshine....

After a rainy long weekend and a very wet Wednesday, yesterday the sun came out again much to my disgust since I was at work all day and couldn't even go out and enjoy it. What a waste of a beautiful fall day.

But today is an entirely different matter! I work from home Fridays so this morning after my walk I took my little laptop outside and here I sit! My private front deck is wonderful, no one is watching wondering what in the world I am doing sitting out in the sun(we all know that is so bad for you!) and I am just enjoying one of the last really warm days before the crisp days of fall.

Enjoying the sunshine....which always does a girl good! Don't you agree?

A Most Excellent Day

On Sunday we had what another friend called 'a most excellent day'!! And it truly was....

We were going sailing with friends and met them at the dock where the sailboat, Wings, was docked. Dave took the helm as we motored out of the marina in Stanley Park.
Past the Brockton Point Lighthouse...a unique view that you don't get when walking the Sea Wall or driving through the Park.
Just in time to see a Float Plane taking off. It was amazing to see how many came and went in the harbor.
And we're off...headed for the Lion's Gate Bridge.
Under the bridge and taking a look back into the sun....
My turn to take the helm. We all had a chance to try it while motoring and then later when the wind picked up while actually sailing.
This really was a memorable day...we were like two little kids!
Past the Point Atkinson Lighthouse.....
Our destination was Bowen Island .... we had never been there in all our years here in BC.
The goal was Doc Morgan's next to the Marina for lunch.
We were just having so much fun.
Too soon it was time to head back home.....
It felt like we were living a dream.....leaving Snug Cove.
Finally, enough wind to unfurl the sails..
We weren't the only sailboat enjoying the afternoon wind.
A unique perspective.
We had seen this Cruise Ship docked at Canada Place in the morning as we left and now we were both passing under the Lions Gate Bridge at the same time.
Dave's turn at the helm brought us back into the harbor.
It truly had been a most excellent day!!! Thank you so much W & G for taking us along.
