“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the
faith.” (2 Tim 4:7)
As I read the email my heart
sank. A friend who had lived his entire life in light of eternity was dead only
6 weeks after he had been diagnosed with cancer. Lord, another one of your
children called home too soon it seems? We
have been so aware of families that are hurting and walking through
challenging times these past weeks and months.
The week before it was an email
about a 29- year-old father of two who was dead of leukemia. He too was
passionate about sharing his love for Jesus. And that same week a memorial service
for a mother and grandmother who was exactly my age who had left an incredible
impact on everyone she met and wasn’t afraid to ask people if they knew her
Jesus.
It has made me stop and
think, what will people say at my funeral? Will it be evident to everyone that
I loved Jesus and strove to take as many people with me to heaven as I possibly
could? Will the person that sends out the email about my death be able to say
that I have finished the race and kept the faith?
Heavenly Father, thank you that you have called me not
only to be your child but also to tell as many people as I can about your love
for me and for them. Help me to truly live a life that counts in light of
eternity. Amen
If you knew that you only had
one week left to live, what would you do this week? Who would you share the
good news of the gospel with before it was too late? Do your priorities need to
change this week to reflect living a life that counts for eternity.
