Today was one of those special days that is all about being at the right place at the right time.
We were going to the Rodeo to see the
British Columbia Rodeo Association Finals
which just happened to be happening here in Quesnel this weekend.
Of course the kids had no idea what to expect except that there were going to lots of horses...
...and they were thrilled when this colour guard from nearby Williams Lake came out and performed.
Kai's eyes really lit up when the national anthem was sung and
the Canadian Flag was ridden around the arena.
Next all of the cowboys and cowgirls that were in the finals were introduced...
one event at a time, including the junior events!
First up was the Bareback Riding event and the first performer didn't last long...
...but the later ones made up for it
...showing what they were made of
...and leaving the very best to last!
There was no doubt in anyone's mind that this cowboy had won this event!
Saddle Bronc Riding was next up...
...followed by Steer Wrestling,
which surprised us because the steers won more often then the cowboys!
Next came the ladies 'Breakaway Roping' event...
...and then the Junior Steer Riding which was open to boy and girls under 15 years of age.
By this time we had been sitting in the sun for almost 3 hours so we stayed for one last event,
and my favorite Rodeo Event,
Barrel Racing!!!
I love watching the way the rider and horse become like one,
...and I can almost feel the wind blowing through my hair.
Everyone in the crowd seemed to hold their breath
as they rounded the barrels...
and then raced for home!
What an incredible day for making memories that will be relived for a long time to come!
