We've all seen the pictures of the wildfires on the news but last weekend we got a bit too close for comfort.
We were headed to the lake and there in front of us the fire was burning over the next ridge.
Throughout the evening we kept checking the progress of the fire...
and as we headed to bed we wondered if emergency crews would be waking us up during the night.
The next morning we could see just how close the fire had come...
and the helicopters were still dropping water on the fire.
As the day went on we saw it all....choppers with hoses sucking up the water...
...and others with buckets that needed to be filled up...
and then dumped over the fire.
We watched water bombers filling up over the lake and then dumping the water over the hillside.
In the end the vineyards were saved...
the hillsides were burned...
but the fire fighters had saved the day!

Good job on the photos! You really covered the whole event well. What an interesting experience that was.
Wow! That "is" too close for comfort! Thankful for hardworking firefighters who don't give up.
