Forty years ago today I married my best friend.
We were young,
from two different countries,
two totally different cultures,
moving to a new city
to open a brand new ministry.
We had no idea what the future held,
neither the joys nor the sorrows.
But we pledged our love to one another
and my vows echoed the words of Ruth...
'Whither thou goest I will go,
and where thou lodgest I will lodge,
your people will be my people...'
We've lived in a lot of different places,
traveled across the continent in every direction,
and even points beyond.
We have three amazing children
who in turn married the perfect spouses for each of them
who also live in three different cities
across two countries.
We have 11 grandchildren,
Avery and Sophie who made it to heaven before us
and are waiting for us there,
and 9 more littles here on earth that make us smile
and fill our hearts with joy.
And we are so blessed,
to live with our best friend
to enjoy each new day that our Heavenly Father gives us,
and just to do life together,
whether in the sunshine or in the rain.
Today we are celebrating 40 years of God's amazing love,
His goodness that never fails,
His faithfulness which we declare every night,
His love that endures forever...
through the laughter and the tears
through the good times and the hard
through the times of pain and the times of healing.
Tonight we will go to bed amazed that we have made it 40 years
and marvel that we could possibly be this old,
but as our son in law reminded us just yesterday,
it happened one day at a time,
and tomorrow we will once again enjoy the day
embrace the journey
and count ourselves blessed!
