We are on a journey, sojourners on this earth. Let us share with you the highs and lows of our lives. Heaven is a sweeter place now that we have two beautiful granddaughters waiting there for us.

Hurry Sickness

In our living room sits a chair that is bathed in the sunlight(when the sun is shining that is). It looks so inviting....just waiting for someone to sit down in it....that I had to take a picture of it, 'just because'.

Then this past week our small group from church finished up a book study on the book, The Good and Beautiful God, by James Bryan Smith. In his last chapter he talks about 'Hurry Sickness', something that many of us in this day and age are plagued with and don't even know it.  As I reread the chapter before putting the book on the shelf for now, I couldn't help but reflect about what some of the statements meant for me in these days of being still.

"Too many of us are trying to serve God without listening to God. There will be time to serve, but listening to Jesus always takes precedence."

"When we eliminate hurry we become present, or more specifically, present to the present moment in all of it's glory...which includes, not least of all, being present to God."

Suddenly it was very clear to me again. These past couple of weeks I was really sick with a lung infection and a nasty cough. But as I wrote in my journal that day...

Father, thank you for the gift you have given me of slowing down - being sick these past couple of weeks has been such a reminder that this is a 'gift' from you!! To be able to stop...to be...to breathe...not 'to do' or 'to accomplish anything' but to be content  in simply being.

The chair is a reminder to me that sometimes we are so busy, so hurried that we forget to sit in the sunshine and enjoy the presence of the Father....is it time to sit down in that chair today?

Just this past weekend I set aside some time to "do nothing." Simply rest, reflect, and enjoy the moment. Sure, there was plenty on the to-do list, yet imagine, most all of it waited patiently for me!

Resting in His presence is a delight.
