Changing Seasons

The seasons are changing and it's officially fall outside.

This past week Dave has been back in Minnesota helping his mother move out of their childhood home and into an apartment. At 88 it is definitely past time for her to make this move and it's been hard to watch how difficult it is for her to make decisions about what to take and what to keep. She hasn't moved for over 50 years......the seasons have changed for her but she wasn't ready for it.

It's made me think....how about me? I'm definitely in the fall of my life, with our children grown up and grandchildren growing up. But have I made the other changes that go along with this new season?

It's been almost a year since we moved out of our house and purged and cleaned and sorted...
...thousands of pounds of junk and someone else's good treasures gone(at least I hope the things we took to the thrift store were grabbed by others).

But the sorting and purging hasn't stopped.
I keep a bag in our closet at all times that is just waiting for things that I no longer use, or wear.
Just last week I tried on every jacket and blazer in my closet and was shocked to see several that not only hadn't been worn in years but wouldn't be worn!
How come they were still there?
Why hadn't I put them into the bag before now?
Off they went and now they are gone!

What about you?
What's hanging in your closet?
What is hiding in those boxes at the back of the storage room?
What books are there on the shelf that haven't been read in years?
What special things are you hanging on to that your children will have no idea why you still had them?

Just some questions to ask as the seasons are changing in all of our lives.

It's hard to believe that it's a year already! I think the big purge has helped you keep going now... and it's true... once you experience going through someone else's things, as we did for my grandmother, you kind of think of what it will be like for others to go through your things one day.
Glad Dave could make the trip to help his mom. Hope she is feeling good.
